Broad Big Five categories often hide differences. SelfSonar splits each of the 5 factors into 6 finer facets — that is usually where you find "this is me".
Big Five IPIP-120
Explore yourself in 18 minutes
Big Five describes personality not as a single type, but as a combination of 5 factors and 30 distinct facets. You will see how you usually respond to stress, interact with people, make decisions, organize your work, and restore your energy. SelfSonar uses open materials from the International Personality Item Pool and the Johnson IPIP-NEO-120 structure.
What you get after the test
After completing the test, you get:
SelfSonar turns 120 answers into a map you can actually use: understand yourself, discuss patterns with someone close, and return to the result later. These features make the report different from a standard online quiz.
2–3 pages of coherent psychological text written specifically for your trait combination. Not raw percentages, not a template — a living analysis.
premiumTake the test with a partner, friend, or colleague. SelfSonar builds an interaction map between the two profiles: where you overlap, where you complement each other, and where friction may live.
SelfSonar Mini-360: invite 3–10 people who know you to rate you on the same 120 items. SelfSonar compares your self-report with the outside view — where you overlap, where the blind spots and underrated strengths live.
Where you sit against ~410k people who took a similar test online. Not a population norm — just a reference point for how your result differs from the typical one.
Download the result, save it to your account, and return in a year to compare how your profile changed. One test, one long story.

Explore the five Big Five factors
Each page explains one broad factor, how high and low scores can appear, and which six IPIP-120 facets sit underneath it.
How strongly a person is drawn to ideas, imagination, aesthetics, learning, and change.
Read factor → C ConscientiousnessHow a person plans, prioritizes, keeps promises, regulates effort, and finishes what they start.
Read factor → E ExtraversionHow a person uses contact, pace, assertiveness, stimulation, and positive emotion.
Read factor → A AgreeablenessHow a person balances trust, empathy, directness, cooperation, and self-protection.
Read factor → ES Emotional StabilityHow a person tends to stay balanced, recover from stress, and avoid getting stuck in threat signals.

See yourself through the eyes of someone who knows you well
After completing Big Five, send a personal invitation link to someone close, a friend, or a colleague. They will rate your traits from the outside, and SelfSonar will show where your views align and what others notice differently in you.
Your main profile stays the same. The outside rating is shown separately and helps you see yourself from another angle.

Methodology
An open five-factor model with a checkable source
Big Five / Five-Factor Model is one of the best-known research frameworks for describing stable personality tendencies. SelfSonar relies on open IPIP materials and presents the result as a developmental map, not a diagnosis or a label.
The most reproducible model
The five-factor model is used across academic personality research and fits cautious self-report description well: not a "forever type", but a handful of dimensions you can read separately and in combination.
Not a closed licence — an academic pool
Items come from the International Personality Item Pool, an open pool founded by Lewis Goldberg (Oregon Research Institute). Universities worldwide build their own tests on top of IPIP.
The depth of the Johnson IPIP-NEO-120 version
Most sites only show the 5 broad factors. SelfSonar splits each into 6 facets. That is the difference between "you are an extravert" and "you are talkative in small groups but drained by large events".
Not one type — a detailed map of your personality
After the test you will get a profile across 5 factors and 30 character facets — with clear explanations, a personal analysis, and practical takeaways.
